2009 Update
On a bright sunny Sunday after worshiping in the morning, our church family headed to a nearby park and set up for games (H-games style) and picnic. Soon, 10 teenage boys came with a supervisor from Austin Children's Shelter. These kids were staying at the shelter during the transition before they are moved to a foster home. At first we were a bit taken back to expect big boys rather small children, but they really enjoyed the games. One of the supervisor commented that they weren't sure if some of the boys would participate but they were surprised to see all of them participate with such enthusiasm due to the creativity of the games and the friendliness of our church members. After a good work-out from the games, we enjoyed a wonderful picnic together. The boys played another round of football game afterward. They wanted to stay longer but due to another schedule with the shelter, the boys reluctantly said goodbye but left in good spirits with care-packages that we had put together a few days before. Our church members gathered after they left and lifted up a prayer for them. It was a wonderful day of serving and worshiping the Lord through serving our community here in Austin!
